Smallmouth Bass catch, diet, and consumption data in Lower Granite Reservoir, 2016-2018


Data Categories The data set is divided into three categories. First is catch data. This summarizes the catch of bass at each sample site along with pertinent environmental data. Second is diet data. This summarizes all the prey found in bass stomachs. Third, is the consumption data. This uses the site and diet data to estimate consumption and loss of juvenile Chinook salmon to bass predation.

Purpose of Data Set The purpose of this data was to estimate the seasonal loss of subyearling fall Chinook salmon to smallmouth bass in Lower Granite Reservoir.
Summary / Abstract The data set contains smallmouth bass catch, diet, and consumption data that was collected from April-June in Lower Granite Reservoir on the Snake River, 2016-2018. The data set contains everything necessary to estimate empirical consumption of juvenile Chinook salmon, smallmouth bass abundance, and predation loss of Chinook salmon during the study periods.

Data Collection Methods Smallmouth bass were collected using boat electrofishing. Diet data were collected using non-lethal stomach lavage on bass.
File Formats Microsoft Excel 2000 or later.
Data structure description The data are contained in an Excel spreadsheet that has 4 sheets. The first sheet is called "Column Definitions." It contains a description of each column in each sheet. They are organized by sheet. The second sheet is called "Site Data." This sheet contains all catch information, environmental data, and also final estimates of abundance, consumption, and loss of Chinook and sand rollers. The third sheet is called "Field Data." It contains many of the variables used to calculate consumption rates. The fourth data sheet is called "Lab Data." This contains all the diet data from smallmouth bass. It included taxon number and wet weight. Note: this is a complicated data set. To fully understand the analysis methods that produced the data and the study design, it is important to contact the data set creator - Ken Tiffan.
