Process_Step: Process_Description: (1) Because depth polygons need to be continuous for West Coast EFH study area, it was necessary to manually extend the arcs at the north end of the Oregon contour data to meet the southern boundary of the Washington State contour data. The gap between the two data sets was approximately 150 meters. Approximately 450 arcs were extended with ArcInfo EXTEND command or manually in ArcEdit. Oregon data was chosen to be extended because it was assumed to be more accurated than the Washington data. (2) Contour lines were clipped and merged with a box used to create an outer boundary for depth zone polygons. In addition, there were some artifacts along the deeper edge of the contour data, assumed to be caused by values of zero (instead of null) outside the contour area of interest. The clipping box removed these edge areas. (3) A series of AML programs were used to assign the depth values of the adjacent contour lines to the minimum and maximum depth attributes of each polygon. If the polygon had only one adjacent contour line, the adjacent/surrounding polygon was used to determine whether the inner polygon was a high or low point in the relief and the maximum or minimum depth zone value was assigned accordingly.
