Western Montana Northern Pikeminnow Distribution Abstract: This dataset is a record of distribution of northern pikeminnow as of year 2001 in Western Montana (West of the Continental Divide) based on the best professional judgement of local fish biologists. This information was collected by biologists at Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks (MFWP), United States Forest Service (USFS) and Bureau of Land Management (BLM). Data was then created from this information and compiled into event tables by StreamNet project staff at MFWP. (MFWP Contact: Steve Carson -- stcarson@state.mt.us) This data was submitted to the StreamNet project regional staff at Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commision (PSMFC) where this regional distribution coverage was created. Regional StreamNet GIS Specialist (StreamNetGIS@psmfc.org) All data is referenced to the PNW 1:100,000 River Reach Hydrography LLID routing system (see http://www.streamnet.org/pnwr/pnwr.home for information.) Purpose: Data is intended for use in a variety of applications where fish distribution is important. Limitations_of_Data: Data is collected at the 1:100,000 scale. Smaller tributaries that are not included in this system are not shown in this coverage. This data represents believed instances of northern pikeminnow distribution, and as every stream can not be sampled, this is not an all-inclusive list of fish distribution in this region. Each arc in this coverage represents a stream portion where northern pikeminnow are believed to be present, based on the best professional judgement of professional biologists. Usage of the stream by the fish is categorized in the usetype field. Entity_and_Attribute_Overview: Attribute Type Definition LENGTH Binary Fl.point Length of arc in feet NPIKDIST# Binary Integer Internal feature number for each arc NPIKDIST-ID Binary Integer User-assigned feature number for each arc FISHPRESID Binary Integer MFWP key field for identifying source data events LLID Character Longitude-latitude identifier which uniquely identifies the stream (for complete domain, see ftp://ftp.streamnet.org/pub/streamnet/ASCII_Data/LLIDStream.txt) STRMNAME Character Name of the 1:100,000 scale stream (for complete domain, see ftp://ftp.streamnet.org/pub/streamnet/ASCII_Data/LLIDStream.txt) BEGFT Binary Fl.point Beginning coordinate of data event on stream route, in feet (this attribute included with event table format only) ENDFT Binary Fl.point Ending coordinate of data event on stream route, in feet (this attribute included with event table format only) USETYPE Binary Integer Description of fish use of the habitat. Domain: (1=Primarily spawning and rearing, 2=Primarily rearing and migration, 3=Primarily migration, 4=Year-round resident, 5=Feeding run, 6=Adult rearing, 7=Adfluvial/fluvial spawning and year-round resident) YEAR Binary Integer Nominal year in which information was compiled. COMMENT Character Additional comments. REFID Binary Integer Code for the reference for this data that is maintained in the StreamNet library (for complete domain, see ftp://ftp.streamnet.org/pub/streamnet/ASCII_Data/Reference.txt) HUC Binary Integer USGS 4th field hydrologic unit (subbasin) in which this event is situated (for complete domain, see ftp://ftp.streamnet.org/pub/streamnet/ASCII_Data/HUC.txt). If HUC = 0, then the event crosses the boundaries of multiple hucs Procedures_Used: Distribution locations submitted to StreamNet MFWP staff, where it was tied to the 1:100,000 scale hydrography in an event table format. This information was then submitted to the regional StreamNet staff, where it was QA'd and converted to a GIS format. Revisions: This is the first version of this GIS data (compiled September, 2001). Reviews_Applied_to_Data: Checked to ensure that all data events mapped out onto the regional 1:100,000 scale hydrography layer. Related_Spatial_and_Tabular_Data_Sets: - PNW River Reach Hydrography 1:100,000 scale (spatial)-- This is the base hydrography used to map these events. Information about this data set is available from http://www.streamnet.org/pnwr/pnwrhome.html Currentness_Reference: Data is current as of year 2001. Maintenance_and_Update_Frequency: As this data set is updated, new versions will be available for download from http://www.streamnet.org/gistdata.html Typically this data set will be updated annually or semi-annually. Access_Constraints: None. Data_Set_Credit: Data was compiled by the StreamNet project (http://www.streamnet.org). Data was provided by Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks (MFWP).
