This dataset is a record of fish distribution and activity for SPRING CHINOOK contained in the StreamNet database. This feature class was created based on linear event data extracted from the StreamNet database on March 21, 2006. Distribution is based upon the best professional judgement of local fish biologists, in the Pacific Northwest Region (Oregon, Washington, and Idaho). These data were collected by biologists at the state fish & wildlife agencies of Washington (WDFW), Oregon (ODFW) and Idaho (IDFG). Data were then compiled by StreamNet staff into paper maps or event tables at the state level. These event tables were submitted to the StreamNet regional staff at Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commision (PSMFC) where this regional distribution feature class was created from the source route event tables. All data is referenced to the PNW 1:100,000 River Reach Hydrography (http://www.streamnet.org/pnwr/pnwrhome.html) on the LLID-based stream routing system.
These data are intended for use in a variety of applications where fish distribution and activity is important. Note that the StreamNet database contains distribution information for numerous species. Within the source database, overlap does not exist for a particular species/run/subrun combination. See information under the spatial process log for specific information regarding the query that was used to construct this particular feature class.
StreamNet is a cooperative information management and dissemination project focused on fisheries and aquatic related data in the Columbia River basin and the Pacific Northwest. The project provides a variety of data related to fish resources and maintains the 1:100,000 scale hydrography layer for the Pacific Northwest. Information is available through the an on-line database query, interactive maps, direct data download or by custom request.
StreamNet receives funding from the Bonneville Power Administration (BPA Project No.: 198810804) and is authorized under the Fish and Wildlife Program of the Northwest Power and Conservation Council. Other organizations provide funding for select project components. Participating agencies contribute significant in-kind services and include: the Oregon Dept. of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW), Washington Dept. of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW), Idaho Dept. of Fish and Game (IDFG), Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks (MFWP), U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), and the Columbia River Inter-Tribal Fisheries Commission (CRITFC). The StreamNet project is managed by the Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commission in Portland, Oregon.
Data are collected at the 1:100,000 scale and only on streams that are included in the PNW reach LLID-based routing system. Generally, this includes all named streams at the 1:100,000 scale and some unnamed tributaries. Smaller tributaries that are not included in this routing system are not shown in this coverage. This data represents believed instances of fish distribution or habitat that likely supports fish distribution, and as every stream has not been fully evaluated, this is not an all-inclusive list of fish distribution in this region. Each arc included in this coverage represents a stream segment of suitable habitat currently believed to be utilized by wild, natural, and/or hatchery fish populations and/or streams where sightings of wild, natural, and/or hatchery fish have been documented..
